Client: Bundesammt für Bauwesen und Raumordnung
Date: 2009
Status: Competition
Programme: Design for the new german school in Madrid
Scope: Landscape design and public space consultancy

Ecosistema Urbano cooperated with the german architecture office Sauerbrucht Hutton in the international Ideas competition for the creation of the new German School in Madrid. The building provided spaces for a kindergarten, a primary school, and a secondary school.
The proposed scheme is for a building that is partially buried while the upper surface is completely integrated with the surrounding landscape. The proposal combines the organizational structure of an educational institution with the privacy of a domestic spatial configuration. The building consists of the alternance of built ambiences and inner patios that improve bioclimatic efficiency and provide opportunities for social, recreational and cultural activities.

Ecosistema Urbano was in charge of the conceptual approach, public space and landscape design.

The proposal was awarded the 3rd prize in the competition.
